  2. Jamie:
Sir Tipene O'regan was fighting for Ngai-Tahu legal personality because there were only two iwi who have their legal Personality formally recognized by the state. That’s only Waikato-Tainui and now Ngai-Tahu because of sir tipene o'regan fought to get our legal personality, cause of him we are getting more recognized and before sir tipene, we struggled for years to get the legal personality for our papatipu Runanga recognized by new Zealand parliament.

Ngai-Tahu had fought a long fight over that without any interest from another iwi, sir Tipene didn’t get it done through parliament legislation he got it done through the order in council, this is because sir tipene and Ngai-Tahu had trouble with parliament and having the kaupapa politicised.
Sir Tipene O'Regan was raised and educated in Wellington, Tipene spent significant time as a young child in Awarua (bluff). In 1976 Tipene was appointed as the Te Ika-a-Maui (North Island) representative on the Ngai Tahu Maori Trust Board. He served on the board for 22 years and was chairman for thirteen of those years. As the chief negotiator.-

Peter Meihana is a Maori man from Rangitane o Wairau iwi. With two different perspectives and two different lives but just one person. He demolished the boundaries of what I thought would be possible. Growing up he had a disease which changed him. Vitiligo.

Peter was born brown and growing up he grew taller and changed like most boys but when he got to his twenties his skin changed also. Only one percent of the world would know what he was going through because he had an infrequent out of the ordinary skin disease called Vitiligo. Which changes your skin colour from brown to white. His body had hit puberty but had changed a lot more than any other ordinary boy. He lived two lives and knew how both skin colours were treated.

When he was an adult he was treated like a pakeha because of the maori stereotype. He was supposed to have brown skin, talk differently just to be a maori. Since other people didn't see him as a Maori because of how he looked he heard a lot of racism being said about other people. And because he is Maori he wanted to stick up for his culture and would tell them how rude it was. Because he stuck up for HIS culture he was made a joke and people said you can't be Maori because you don't look like other maori. He got told that he wasn't his culture because of other peoples ignorance.

Growing up Peter lived in blenheim. He experienced racism, being called nasty names and taunted. He once told his mother that he no longer wanted to be brown because of the way he was treated. His wish came true but because it did he now got treated like a non maori. In my opinion he was a revolutionist because of the things he did. In Peter Meihana’s own words he said “to some people it looked like who is this white guy saying all these things”. But in fact it was a Maori man sticking up for his culture and what he believed. Because of the way he looked though he was categorised white.

I picked this man not just because of how unordinary and rare skin disease he had but because he is a leader and a man who could help Maori racism and stereotypes. He experienced racism and encountered it being said to others and was expected not to care because he didn't look like he was Maori. He lived in two different worlds and also knew how it felt to be called not Maori because he didn't look like he was supposed to.

  7. Personally I have never heard of Billie Jean King but I did some research and I found out a few things about her.

A bit about Billie and her life:
Billie Jean King is a former American world number 1 tennis player. She won 39 grand slam titles followed by 12 in singles, 16 in women's doubles and 11 in the mixed doubles. She was born in Long Beach California on November the 22 1943. Billie retired from tennis in 1990 aged 40 years old.

Billie Jean King also excelled at baseball and softball as a child. But she felt that she didn’t enjoy them so she moved onto tennis. Her parents told her to find a more “ladylike” sport, but Billie decided she wanted to try out tennis as she thought she would make a career out of it.

One thing that stuck out to me was how she is a social activist and she helped fight for equality for women in and out of sport. In 1973 age 29 Billie won the “battle of sexes” where she faced 55 year old Bobby Riggs. She also was the founder of the Women's Tennis Association as well as Women's Sport Foundation. Billie also helped persuade the cigarette brand Virginia Slims to Sponsor Women's Tennis.

  8. Jett Lawrence

Jett Lawrence is an up and coming international motocross champion. He was born in Queensland Australia and really enjoyed riding motorbikes. He discovered he had a real talent for it and became internationally successful when he won the 65 cc world championship at only 11 years old. Not long after that his family moved to Europe so Jett and his brother could pursue their dreams with motocross. After success in the European Circuit they later moved to the USA. Jett has slowly made his way up in the AMA and Outdoor Championships. He now races the factory CRF250R with Team Honda HRC.

Some of the recent successes for Jett Lawrence are
4th place in the 2020 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship 250.
Rookie of the Year title in AMA 2020
This season he has had 4 wins and is currently ranked first in the AMA Supercross championship with only one round to go.

What makes Jett Lawrence so impressive is that he is only 18 years old which is young to be so successful in this competitive sport. He is thought to be one of the most promising talents in racing. Jett trains really hard to work towards his goals and is a good example that hard work and focus can pay off. He is also a nice guy because this year he donated his prize money to people affected by floods in Tennessee. He said he would probably just spend it on something stupid so it is better that it is going to be put to good use.
